Update - Ten months later and still going strong on the macros! I share my knowledge with anyone who will listen. I hit my goal weight six months into the process (20 pounds, 18.2 inches and 10.02% body fat down). This approach is slow and steady, which is what has made this sustainable.  It's not a "diet" to me, it taught me how to eat to maximize performance and health while still living life. Combining macros with working out and I feel the best I have felt in a LONG time!

Jan 2016 - Being in my 40's, I felt like all I had to do was look at food and I gained weight even though I am an active person. I began the cutting calories/low far pattern (again) which lead to cutting calories during the week but binging  on the weekends because, what the hack, I ate well all week, right?! Well, my weight barely budged (plus I felt deprived during the week) until I decided to join Mantra Fit's 6 week challenge.

First, when I got my meal plan, I wrote my nutrition coach and said no way this is WAY too much food (the calories I was scared of). She stated I put myself in a starvation mode so when I binged, my body stored for the week ahead. Once I got the tracking of food down through MyFitnessPal, the process went from daunting to YAY what can I eat today! Sticking with the mantra 80% healthy and 20% fun. I was (and still am) amazed at my fat/inches lost, even through the holidays. It all comes down to chemistry.

The Challenge created an atmosphere where we helped and learned from each other, thanks to Mantra Fit's workouts, our Challenge community and coaches. It is what motivated me and inspires me to continue this challenge/journey and learn more.

I was inspired to try the Mantra 6 challenge when I saw the success of some friends who did it. I was nervous of trying something new and afraid it wouldn’t work for me. Almost immediately, I was put at ease by Mantra Fit's wonderful community of coaches and members.

I can tell you that I lost pounds and inches and went down a clothing size. All wonderful things, of course! But it's the intangible changes that spoke to me.

I felt a passion for living ignite in me during this challenge that I never felt before.

This challenge gave me back control. I was eating for what my body and mind needed. It gave me the courage to try new and different classes. The challenge gave me the motivation to work hard, push beyond my limits and come back the next day to do it all again!

This new-found passion spilled over in personal life, making me a better spouse, friend, parent and person. I laugh more. I move more. I smile more. I am LIVING LIFE to the fullest!

My fitness journey is not over and I don’t want it to be! I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.

Ken's Story

I was inspired by Kim’s drive and success. I started going to the gym more often but I knew nutrition was the key. I never liked taking group fitness classes because they were always crowded and I always felt like I was lost.

Kim asked her nutrition coach to calculate my macros and talked me into trying one class at Mantra Fit. I enjoy the small class sizes and the personal attention from the instructors. I know someone is holding me accountable for my nutrition and effort. They helped me set goals and tailor my workouts to meet my goals. I feel younger, stronger and more energized. I now look forward to my workouts and new ways to challenge myself.

Together, Kim and I are stronger and hold each other accountable. We enjoy planning our meals and challenging each other to try new classes and foods. When we get the opportunity to take a class together, we motivate each other so one of us can say #iwontheworkout.

I came to Mantra Fit in the worst shape of my life. I’m in my mid-40’s and a full-time everything (mom, wife, employee, sister, friend) so in my mind I had no time, nor tools to do anything about my body. I am not an athlete by nature and doing anything around fitness is intimidating for me.

Then along came the Mantra 6 Challenge - I had heard great things about the Mantra Fit community, I decided to give it a try. It’s not a quick fix – there are no magic pills or potions or patches. The Challenge gave me the tools and training that I needed to get MYSELF here.

Mantra Fit's team always pushes us to be our best. The Challenge provides amazing classes at the studio that I hit almost every day, along with a personalized nutrition plan based on the macronutrient approach. This is not a diet – it is a way to live your life and have your food work for you. My work is not done. And I cannot wait to see what the future holds for my journey.

Despite being a competitive rower, I felt tired all the time. I was the brunt of many family jokes because I couldn’t make it past 8:30 without dozing off on the couch.

Tracking my macros was a new concept for me. I learned immediately that I was not eating nearly enough protein and it gave me permission to eat my beloved carbs. I was surprised at how much food I had to eat, but I trusted the process and lost inches and body fat. I also attended amazing classes at Mantra Fit. The instructors challenge and motivate us to hit our goals.

Since the challenge, I continued on with the eating habits I learned. I actually surpassed my goal for weight loss and went from a size 10 to a size 4! I am the fittest I’ve ever been at 49 years old. What is even more shocking is my energy level has improved significantly. Much to my family’s surprise, I now stay awake through an entire Redbox movie!

I never felt like I was on a “diet”. I have unlimited food choices that are full of flavor. I learned how to eat right to fuel my body to maximize its potential. The result is a leaner, stronger body with energy to spare. I feel in control of my weight and no longer fear weight gain.
