Can Food Fix You? I Believe it Can


Most clients come to me to lose weight, which means I hear this a lot: “Just tell me what to do, and I’ll do it”. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy. If it were, there would be no such thing as yo-yo dieting. No rebounding back to your larger size. No more angst, shame, guilt, confusion. Everyone would be lean and strong and happy.

So what’s the problem? Why isn’t it easy? Well for one thing, we’re all made differently. Different genes, ethnic backgrounds, lifestyles, upbringings, support systems, intolerances and ages.

Age is a big one (thank you hormones). What worked for me in my twenties, sure as hell doesn’t work for me at 46 years-old after bearing two children.

There is no such thing as a one-size-fits all solution.

Not only are we made completely different from the latest instagram star’s “perfect diet” or “secret for washboard abs”, we are different from the person we were 10 years ago! A hella ton has happened between now and then.

I coach my clients to focus on where they are now… today. When you can meet yourself in this moment in time, and hold a space of compassion for yourself, the healing begins. (And damn if we don’t deserve a little love - especially from ourselves.)

You are your own unique, wonderfully complex human who knows your strengths and your weaknesses. And I have a secret for you. You are your best coach. Because when the house is quiet and the family is asleep, you are the one who must coach yourself away from the binge-worthy bag of M&M’s.

You are the only one who can truly make yourself feel good. You are the one who makes the choices.

When you do start making better choices, your body will adapt. Food, sugar, movement, stress, play, sleep, alcohol, nature, social media are all information for your body. When you choose to give your cells the information it needs to thrive … your body will do exactly that.
